"God's Word vaults across the skies from sunrise to sunset, Melting ice, scorching deserts, warming hearts to faith.
The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together."-Psalm 19:6-7
This last week I spent time with a large portion of my family up in the Colorado mountains enjoying each other and the amazingness of creation. Each morning was met with fog on the lake, the sun rising behind mountains and the sounds of fish jumping on the surface of the water.
It was on one such morning that my two brothers, cousin and I awoke at 5:00 AM to head out to what we hoped would be our lucky fishing spot (and indeed it was) armed with rods and reels, coats and hats and steaming mugs of coffee.
As I sat on the bank of the lake with my fishing rod in place and coffee mug to my lips, I watched the sun peek over the mountains clustered in the east. I had been rubbing my hands together, curling up my legs beneath me in an attempt to stay warm despite my already very layered garb of leggings, sweatshirt and snowboard jacket, but, until the sun starting beating its first rays of sunlight onto my eastern side I couldn't get warm.
It was astonishing how quickly the temperature changed. It seemed as though the temperature rose 10 degrees within a matter of minutes. I started rotating my body towards the rising sun as if I were on a rotisserie, letting my frigid limbs beneath the layers begin to thaw.
While rotating I began to think about the warmth that comes with nearness to the Father. The warmth that fills me when I huddle closely with His word. And sometimes, just as I noticed while I stood on the shore of the lake with the sun rising beside me, I find myself reminded how quickly His warmth acts. How quickly my blue frigid fingers find themselves pink again.
Therefore, I will be try to be like David, finding myself saying to this melting, scorching, warming God,
"My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to You..."-Psalm 63:8
