For the Kingdom of God is not just a lot of talk; it is living by God’s power. -NLT
God’s Way is not a matter of mere talk; it’s an empowered life. -The Message
For the kingdom of God consists of and is based on not talk but power (moral power and excellence of soul). -AMP
1 Corinthians 4:20
This is one of those scriptures that I find myself repeating like a chugging train rolling down it's tracks. I think that if somehow I can get my brain wrapped around the reality of it then it will loom large in my life.
This verse is like seeing a set of lungs being placed in a chest. Doctors go through years of medical school, training, internships, practice, study, reading, etc. to get to the place where they find themselves lowering a vibrant, pink set of lungs into someone's body. In fact, there was probably much discussion about the intricate details of what it would take to perform a surgery like that. Maybe a verbal run through or dress rehearsal. Then, with the doctor prepared, he begins. The lungs are placed, they are attached and everyone stands back holding their own breaths, eyes focused and looking for movement, ears straining to hear that initial rush of air into the lungs that would signal life. And then there it is "Whoosh!" Breath. The power to live.
The life of the body that now houses the new lungs does not come by merely talk or words but by the lungs power to function as they were created.
"The Christian life is not a matter of words but of performance in holiness, spiritual maturity and obedience to God."-Derek Prime "Opening Up 1 Corinthians"
My life, my Christ following, Gospel effected, part of the Kingdom of God life, will never have that first inhale of breath unless I am living with the implantation of His power pushing and pulling, inhaling and exhaling His life throughout my spiritual body.
This verse has me looking to see if my chest is rising and falling...
