Rain and Windshield Wipers...

I had the thought that windshield wipers could be likened to the Word of God. I know this sounds a bit silly but follow me here...

I'm driving down the 15 freeway in San Diego and it is raining hard (San Diego hard not real world hard). I have my windshield wipers on all the way and I'm still feeling a bit like I can't see as well as I'd like. As I'm squinting through the blur and having a bit of a daydream(due to the slow traffic speeds and lulling of the rain on my car) I start to think about how much better I could see if my wipers were newer and they were well taken care of. Maybe I should have replaced them when my tree dropped a 1 inch layer of pollen and other tree-like debris on my car instead of using a one of those blue paper towels at the gas station to wipe them off. Maybe I wouldn't feel quite so anxious while I am driving, if I could see better. This is where the Word comes in. My knowledge of the Word is imperative to my life. I need to know it forwards and backwards and deeply so that when the rain and darkness and wind, that accompany storms hits, my reserve will be sparkley clean and quick to give me my sight back. When I know the Word better, I see better.

Let's take this one step further. When I can't see well am I only endangering myself? Nope. I endanger the people with me and the others on the street when I happen to drive by. This applies spiritually as well. Our responses to life affect the people close to us and even those who just happen to be passing by. So, do all of us passers-by a favor and spend time studying/discussing/listening to the Word so that you can really know it and don't end up spinning off in our direction because you weren't prepared for that gust of wind and rain.
